Turquoise has a long history, beginning with the ancient Egyptians mining turquoise in the Sinai Peninsula over 6,000 years ago. Turquoise is most commonly found near copper mines, where the chemical reaction of copper gives turquoise its sky blue color. Turquoise is relatively soft and easy to carve, and is a porous material that tends to change color by absorbing oils from the skin or perfume, hence bright and brilliant turquoise has a high value. Designed as the stamen of flowers and surrounded by diamond petals, the striking turquoise in this necklace set is bound to make an impression on the beholder.
